　　本书收集了332组常见的英语相似词语，先指出其异同和易于混淆之处，然后说明其含义和用法。每组词语附有适当的例句，以便读者比较和参考。本书的一大特点是：通过一对词语的比较以说明其他同一类型的相似词句。例如，通过at table和at the table的比较，说明go to school和go to theschool的区别;通过drink和drinking的对比，说明smoke和smoking的差异；通过hear和listen的辨异，说明see和look的关系；通过hear和hearof的对照，说明know和know of的差别；通过few和a few，说明little和alittle……使读者在阅读了一组例句的比较之后，可以触类旁通，由此及彼地联想到其他类似词语的关系和区别。因此，本书虽然列举了332组相似词句，实质上它们却代表了成千上万对与之具有类似差别的词语。

　　卢思源，广东中山人，英国语言文学教授。1956年毕业于复旦大学外文系英国语言文学专业。上海市外文学会会长，华东六省一市外文学会协作组组长，上海市科技翻译学会会长（1995—2004），中国翻译协会第四届理事，中国译协“资深翻译家”，《上海利技翻译（上海翻译）》编委（1996-），上海市翻译系列高级职务任职资格评审委员会主任委员兼英语学科评审组组长（1992-2004），华东工业大学文理学院院长，上海理工大学外语学院院长兼上海—纽约联合语言学院院长（1987-2000），上海大学国际商学院顾问教授（1991），上海大学外国后学院顾问教授（1995），上海铁道学院兼职教授（1996），上海大学悉尼工商学院兼职教授（2003），上海对外贸易学院客座教授（2004—），上海市邦德学院高级顾问、外语学院院长、名誉院长（1999-），美国纽约市立大学皇后学院客座教授（1987-1988），香港商务印书馆客座高级编审兼顾问（1992—1993，1995-1996），香港LangoIT有限公司高级顾问（2000-2001），新加坡卢氏教育文化公司总经理兼董事（2002-2003），上海市高职高专外语指导委员会顾问（2007—）。1991年被评为中国机械电子工业部矣型怀龉毕鬃矣，1992年起享受国务院专家津贴待遇。主要著译作有专著5本、主编词典6部、论文50多篇、主审词典6部、教材12本、书籍10册。已培养校内外英语研究生39名。主要从事研究领域为翻译学、科技英语和词汇学。
