Johnson & Johnson is aglobal American pharmaceutical,medical devices and consumerpackaged goods manufacturerfounded in 1886. Its commonstock is a component of the DowJones Industrial Average andthe company is listed among theFortune 500. Johnson & Johnsonis known for its corporate reputation, consistently ranking at the top ofHarris Interactive’s National Corporate Reputation Survey, ranking as theworld’s most respected company by Barron’s Magazine, and was the firstcorporation awarded the Benjamin Franklin Award for Public Diplomacyby the U.S. State Department for its funding of international educationprograms. A suit brought by the United States Department of Justicein 2010, however, alleges that the company from 1999 to 2004 illegallymarketed drugs to Omnicare, a pharmacy that dispenses the drugs innursing homes.

The corporation’s headquarters is located in New Brunswick, NewJersey, United States. Its consumerdivision is located in Skillman, NewJersey. The corporation includessome 250 subsidiary companieswith operations in over 57 countries.

Its products are sold in over 175countries. Johnson & Johnson hadworldwide pharmaceutical sales of$24.6 billion for the full-year 2008.

Johnson & Johnson’s brandsinclude numerous household namesof medications and first aid supplies. Among its well-known consumerproducts are the Band-Aid Brand line of bandages, Tylenol medications,Johnson’s baby products, Neutrogena skin and beauty products, Clean &Clear facial wash and Acuvue contact lenses.

William C. Weldon is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer ofJohnson & Johnson, just the sixth Chairman in Johnson & Johnson’s overone-hundred year history.

He was born on November 26, 1948 in Brooklyn, New York. Hisparents were a Broadway stage-hand and a costume designer. He received aBA in Biology from Quinnipiac University in 1971.

Weldon has spent his entire working life at Johnson & Johnson. He joinedJohnson & Johnson as a sales representative for the McNeil Pharmaceuticaldivision in 1971 and eventually became the head of Johnson & Johnson’sEthicon Endo-Surgery business in 1992. He became the head of Johnson &Johnson’s pharmaceutical operations in 1998 and then became Johnson &Johnson’s CEO in 2002. As CEO, Weldon engineered some of the largestacquisitions in Johnson &Johnson’s history including the purchase of Alzaand Pfizer’s consumer-health product line. In 2009, Weldon earned a totalcompensation of $22,830,834, which included a base salary of $1,802,500,a cash bonus of $12,831,146, stock awards of $2,762,532, option awards of$5,238,069, and other compensation of $196,587.Weldon also sits on theJPMorgan Chase & Co. Board of Directors.
