HEART FLAMES
I planted a sheaf of flames in your heart,
and they surged and swelled inside you.
Ten thousand trees reached to stroke your head.
From your chest a flame rushed, resisting
the sunset. Magma seethes down the walls
of volcanoes, scorching the aged rock. I am
eager to glimpse your dreams' sharp-tipped thorns!
I planted a sheaf of flames in your heart,
And with dried lips kissed cracks into the earth.
You who feel inferior, give back the poetry
to your heart, to the earth.
