Lady in My Expedition

I first met Jing Wang at the Manaslu base camp, a petit pretty Chinese woman with an air of confidence, but at that time I thought she was out of her comfort zone. However a few days later I heard that she not only reached the summit of Manaslu, but also returned to base camp on the same day.

Of course I never thought that I would actually see Jing again as she would return to China and I to France. So it was a surprise when she contacted me in 2009 to ask if she could join my expedition to Everest .

It was on this expedition that I started to understand this woman.

Although reserved, I found that she had a tremendous capacity for work other than climbing on the mountains. Somewhat reluctant to do the basic acclimatization progress, but on summit days she seems to pull out incredible power and strength and is able to reach the summits with what appears to be relative ease.

We have now been on several expeditions together, and it is only from this time together that I have become to know much more about this interesting lady. Not only is she a mountaineer, but she is also an astute businesswoman. Starting a small tent manufacturing company with her husband, this has now grown into a huge corporation demanding intense negotiations and attention to detail. But furthermore, Jing is also a caring mother of two delightful daughters, that is when she is not travelling to various parts of the globe. Her appetite for adventure travel is demanding and how she is able to dedicate time to such projects as well as run her normal life is impressive.

But what is even more impressive, is her caring for others who are less fortunate than her in these countries she visits, as well as her concern for the environment. No matter where Jing is, in China or Nepal or another country, she shares her views and concerns about pollution of our mountains and actively becomes involved with various projects that not only makes us aware, but also has powerful results.

I have been fortunate to meet such a person and have had the chance to be in the mountains as well as the boardroom with her.
