The South and the North

The waters in the South are bright and gentle;

The mountains in the North are rough and broad-minded.

By means of the flying wheels of the trains，

I travelled to and fro between the North and the South.

I was born in the South.

But I love the North where I grew up.

I love the character of the men from the North，

Which is clear like the sky in the northern autumn.

I love the appearance of the girls from the North，

Which is beautiful like the snowflakes in the northern winter.

Oh！My North！

I grew up in the North.

But I think of the South where I was born.

I praise the land in the South，

Which is inlaid with numerous homes of rice and fish.

I praise the waters and mountains in the South，

Which have given birth to many distinguished figures，

Including men and women.

Oh！My South！

I love the North，and the South also.

I praise both the South and the North.

The land on both sides of the Yangtze River

Is like the mother very kind and very dear.
